King's Lynn - Norfolk From the Middle Ages Till Today

Norfolk is the beautiful county which is home to King’s Lynn, once named Bishops Lynn until Henry VIII renamed it for himself. Lynn is a word from medieval English, and it is used to describe a tidal pool, which is the Oust at Kings Lynn, so this is actually both a port and a market town.

Religion played a large role in populating towns in medieval times and this is the case with Kings Lynn which once belonged to the Bishop De Losinga. An abbey was erected by Benedictine Monks and the town grew around this from 1095. This bishop also bestowed market rights on the town and the annual fair is still held today, starting on St. Valentines Day. Weekly markets are also still a feature of Kings Lynn.

Advice for Tracking Wounded Deer

Mark your shot. Watch for feedback from the animal after you shoot for signs of a hit. Watch the animal until out of sight and listen for further activities. Identify any landmarks to help in marking the trail and the course of the wounded animal.

Different theories exist on waiting for extended periods of time or begin trailing immediately. Waiting an hour before trailing will allow animal to lie down without being disturbed. Immediate tracking will ensure the animal’s wounds do not have time to coagulate allowing for a more consistent blood trail.

The musical Hairspray is set in June in the year 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland. The main character, Tracy, is an overweight young girl. The young girl dreams of becoming famous. If you do not have front row seats, you will want to bring your opera glasses so as not to miss a heartbeat of this fast-paced musical.

As Tracy is watching television one day, she hears that a popular show is going to sponsor a dance contest. Tracy knows that is is her long dreamed of shot at fame. When her overweight mother finds out about her plans, she discourages the idea for two reasons, one is that she worries that people will make fun of her sweet but overweight daughter, and the other is that she thinks the show plays racist music.

Spending Time in Birmingham and Important Things to Know

These days more tourists are looking for new vacation destinations which have something not found elsewhere or, the absolute minimum something other than the common beach holiday. During the “Credit Crunch” large numbers of folk are, alarmingly coming to the conclusion that they have a much smaller budget for expenditure on a family holiday and are, frustratingly, forced to shaving corners to save cash. One way of doing this is to search out a less expensive destination. In the article below I introduce you to the British town of Birmingham. With the pound so weak against the dollar and euro Birmingham guest houses and hotels so much cheaper now.

Birmingham is a city in the county of England known as the West Midlands  and the city’s residents are called “Brummies”. The accent of the Brummy sounds like many other northern English dialects and it is rather difficult to follow what is being spoken a struggle which is made worse if you have not heard it before. Thankfully the majority of people from Birmingham are extremely helpful, kind and polite and do their utmost to explain clearly so if necessary don’t be afraid to approach people about directions and help or help with  Birmingham bed & breakfast accommodation.

The Welsh City of Swansea Neath - Port Talbot

The coastal city of Swansea Neath – Port Talbot, Wales (in actuality, Swansea refers also to the county, and Neath Port Talbot is more properly a county borough) is part of the historic Vale of Glamorgan. It has a current population — when all areas considered part of Swansea are added in — of around 271,000 people, though most would say that it actually has 171,000 or so in its urban area.

It is easy to become somewhat confused about what is and isn’t Swansea, Swansea Neath or Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and just what area is sitting in what Welsh county, county borough or wider urban area within a unitary authority in Wales. What’s not so hard, though, is to appreciate the area for all that it offers in terms of tourist and sightseeing opportunities.

Opera Glasses " Style Wear, Spyglass or Optical Instrument?

If it wasn’t for the Dutch optician Hans Lipperhey, we might not have had either binoculars or opera glasses today. He first started manufacturing simple binoculars in 1608. These were not much more than two telescopes connected by a central bridge, but they led to many further modifications and improvements. His early binoculars had a magnification capability of x3. Within less than a year the Italian mathematician and inventor Galileo Galilee made another drastic stride forward by increasing the magnification ability of telescopes to x30.

Binoculars gave a much wider field of view than telescopes, but since they had 2 convex lenses, the picture that you saw was inverted. It wasn’t until 1617 that Anton Schyrle added an additional lens to re-invert the image. In 1758 John Dollond of England invented the achromatic (color free) lens and thereby solved the problem of color distortion.
